Trump with no hunger for attention has pleaded for Twitter’s reinstatement

Donald Trump’s online post-office interaction has hit new declines, according to exclusive data from SocialFlow provided to Axios. This helps explain why the former president recently asked a federal judge to return his signature account to Twitter.

Why it matters: Trump tried press releases styled as tweets, launched his own “platform” and held campaign-style rallies, but the numbers suggest his megaphone on social media there is no real substitute.

While Trump’s content consumption is predicted to drop during the winter and spring, after he left office, his profile has dropped even more in recent months.

Trump content clicks dropped 37% in August and September compared to the previous two months, according to the data. It measures clicks from social media posts identified from the SocialFlow network of publishers. The decline marked a 50% dip compared to March in the first month of Trump’s free fall from the news after the impeachment trial in February.

What’s happening: The decline is partly explained by the fact that Trump has written about fewer there have been 26% fewer stories in the last two months, compared to March and April, according to exclusive data provided to NewsWhip’s Axios.

But interest in those Trump stories will also fall. Per article, they averaged 28% fewer social media interactions in August and September, the data shows.

The latest: Last week, Trump filed a motion asking a federal judge to force Twitter to reinstate his account, which has been banned for nine months.

In July, Trump filed lawsuits against CEOs of Facebook, Google and Twitter over censorship claims. He deserves to return to Facebook in 2023, when his two-year suspension ends.

Between the lines: Much of Trump’s interest after the presidency came from fighting Rep. Liz Cheney (R-Wyo.).

The biggest day of Trump’s content consumption since February was May 12, the day Cheney was removed from the House GOP leadership, according to SocialFlow data. The biggest of the couple’s last month was on Sept. 9, the day Trump endorsed Cheney’s main opponent Harriet Hageman and Cheney replied, “Take it.”
