Former President Donald Trump spoke kindly about rapper and fashion designer Kanye West in a series of interviews with conservative political commentator Mollie Hemingway.

But Trump also said the West, which ran for president in 2020, had an “obscene inclination,” according to an excerpt of interviews published Friday in The Federalist.

The comments came in one of three interviews Hemingway has conducted with Trump since he left the White House in January for the upcoming book “Rigged: How The Media, Big Tech, and the Democrats Seised Our Elections.”

Hemingway spoke to Trump about the West’s presidential run in 2020, writing that the former president “had good words for the West, but said he had an ‘obscene inclination.'”

Once a Trump supporter voice, the West made national headlines in 2018 when the former president invited him to the Oval Office to speak about gang violence and prison reform. Gave the cap “Make America Great Again”, West gave a nearly 10 -minute long speech, discussing criminal justice reform, his mental health, and how he was given the “power” of the MAGA hat .

Trump called West’s remarks at the time “pretty impressive.”

In April 2020, the West was in the news again, indicating that he was likely to vote for Trump in the upcoming presidential election. But three months later, West announced in a tweet his own intention to run for president as an independent candidate.

“I’m taking off the red hat,” he said in a July 2020 interview with Forbes.

At the time, it was too late in the election cycle for the West to appear on the ballot in four states. However, he almost funded himself in his bid, spending nearly $ 6 million in the first month of his campaign.

West’s longshot bid took another blow when he was left on the ballot in four other states as a result of missing deadlines and failing to meet election requirements. Ultimately, the award-winning actor was eligible on the ballot in only 12 states and received approximately 60,000 votes.

It could duke the West and Trump in the next presidential election, as both the musician and the former president are teasing the 2024 run.

A spokesman for Trump did not immediately respond to Insider’s request for comment.
