Jim Acosta Condemns Chuck Grassley, Kim Reynolds for Attending Trump Iowa Rally: ‘Twisted’

Ahead of former President Donald Trump’s rally in Iowa, CNN’s Jim Acosta slammed Republican Governor Kim Reynolds, Senator Chuck Grassley, and Representatives Ashley Hinson and Mariannette Miller-Meeks for attending the “America First” event in Des Moines.

“It’s crooked and bad. I’m sorry, you just listened to what he said about Haitian migrants and said it wasn’t bad,” Acosta told CNN Live Saturday.

“Trump is scheduled to hold another rally with top GOP lawmakers in Iowa tonight and these politicians need to ask themselves,‘ Why are you sharing the stage with that man after he just said about Haitian migrants? And what did he do here on January 6? ‘”he added.

Four Iowa Republican politicians delivered speeches to supporters before Trump took to the stage at the Iowa State Fairgrounds on Saturday night – his first visit to the state after defeating President Joe Biden in November.

“Obviously the job numbers on Friday were the fault of those not given the action, not the president,” Miller-Meeks said, drawing sarcasm from the crowd. “And we have a border crisis. It’s a travesty of what’s happening on the border right now and we have to build our wall and we have to try everything for COVID-19 to encounter that border.”

“President Biden has no boundaries because he stopped building the fence and he invited the people of this country to break our law,” said Grassley, who recently announced his bid for re -election in 2022.

Trump has remained favorable in Iowa despite leaving office more than eight months ago. In a Des Moines Register / Mediacom Iowa poll, released Oct. 4, about 53 percent of Iowans said they had a favorable view and 45 percent said they had an unfavorable view of the former president.

Iowa Democrats condemned their Republican counterparts for supporting Trump after a group of supporters stormed the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6.

“Iowa Republicans have tied themselves to a man attacking the foundations of our democracy throughout his time in office,” Ross Wilburn, leader of the Iowa Democratic Party, said in a statement. “Just nine months ago, he incited a violent mob to attack his own Vice President and threatened the lives of lawmakers who were simply fulfilling their constitutional duty to certify our election.”

Ammar Moussa, a spokesman for the Democratic National Committee, called Trump’s long hold on the Republican Party “the pinnacle around their necks going into 2022.”

“The Republican Party will remain visible to a president who is in charge of millions of jobs lost, hundreds of thousands of lives lost, and a violent assault on the Capitol and police officers,” Moussa said in a statement.
