Donald Trump blasted Mitch McConnell’s Lack of ‘Courage’

Former President Donald Trump lashed out at Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell at a rally in Iowa on Saturday night, saying the senator lacked the “courage” to challenge the results of the 2020 election.

“Mitch McConnell should challenge that election because even then, we had a lot of material being challenged in that election. He should challenge that election,” Trump said.

“[Senate Majority Leader Chuck] Schumer would have challenged the election. But Mitch McConnell did not have the courage to challenge the election. “

Trump made the comments in a campaign style at the rally at the Iowa State Fairgrounds in Des Moines, Iowa.

The former president also claimed that McConnell’s seniority in the Republican Party was due to the amount of money he was funding.

“He’s just a leader because he raises a lot of money and he gives it to senators, that’s all he gets. That’s just his form of leadership,” Trump said.

The turbulent relationship between the former president and the head of the Senate Minority has become increasingly tense since Trump’s loss of the 2020 election.

McConnell was furious with Trump after coming out to accept Joe Biden’s victory, and condemned the former president for being “practical and morally responsible” for the Jan. 6 Capitol uprising.

Trump has since allegedly worked to oust McConnell as Republican leader, and in April called him a “dumb son of a bitch” and a “stone cold loser.”

However, McConnell said he will still support Trump as the party’s nominee in 2024.

In the nearly two-hour-long speech in Iowa, the former president recycled some of his favorite points of conversation, specifically the widely unproven statements that the 2020 election was fraudulent.

Trump said his election fraud claims garnered the most cheers at rallies.

“The single biggest issue, the issue that gets the most pull, the most respect, the biggest cheers of happiness is talking about fraud in the 2020 presidential election. No one has seen anything like it,” he said. by Trump.

Despite Trump’s continued claims, the Justice Department said it found no evidence of widespread voter fraud in the 2020 election, and dozens of lawsuits filed by Trump and his allies to overthrow the elections have all failed.

Unlike McConnell, many senior Republican leaders continue to embrace Trump and dry up conspiracy theories about election fraud.

Trump was warmly welcomed by the entire Iowa Republican Party, according to The Des Moines Register, along with Sen. Chuck Grassley and Rep. Ashley Hinson, and Rep. Mariannette Miller-Meeks.

Grassley appeared on stage with Trump at the rally, earning praise from the former president for being a loyal supporter.

“You are the greatest,” Trump told Grassley, adding that he has “complete and total endorsement for re-election.”
