Donald Tusk joined thousands in pro-EU protests in Warsaw

Donald Tusk spoke at a large pro-European Union rally in Warsaw’s Castle Square on Sunday.

The former president of the European Council and current leader of Poland’s opposition delivers an amusing speech to thousands of protesters.

Poland’s fears of leaving the EU- ‘Polexit’- were aroused after the Polish Constitutional Tribunal decided that the country’s constitution would overturn some of the EU laws.

The case was initiated by Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki, who expressed doubt about the authority of EU law.

The Polish government has been opposed to the EU for six years as it seeks control over the country’s courts and judges.

There are concerns among pro-EU citizens that the incompatibility between the components of the EU agreement and the Polish constitution will force the country out of the bloc.

Authorities said as many as 100,000 people participated in the Warsaw protest on Sunday, not including other pro-EU demonstrations that were simultaneously held in other parts of the country.

Police said four people, including the Prime Minister’s nephew Morawiecki, were detained during the protest.

People were also punished for setting flares and obstructing traffic.

Morawiecki and party leader Jaroslaw Kaczynski have denied they are trying to position Poland to leave the EU, but the government is increasingly fighting the bloc’s top bodies.
