Donald F. Calkins, Jr.

October 26, 1923 – December 10, 2020

Donald F. Calkins, Jr. of Sanborn, NY, passed away Thursday, December 10, 2020. He was born in Sanborn, NY, on October 26, 1923, the son of the late Donald F. and Frances [Hudson] Calkins, Sr. Don served with the U.S. Navy during World War II. Returning from service, he attended Niagara University and graduated with a degree in business administration in 1950. Don joined the family business DF Calkins Lumber Company after graduation. He was later remembered in the Navy for the Korean War, after his release, he rejoined the Lumber Company and in 1964, became President of the company where Don served on the Lewiston School District # 8 school board until it was formed in Niagara Wheatfield Central School. He has been a member of the Sanborn fire company for more than 50 years, the Sanborn American Legion Post # 969 and the Niagara Falls Elks Lodge # 346 and has served numerous terms with the North Eastern Lumberman Association, including the New York State Advisory Committee. He was active in the First Baptist Church of Sanborn and Lewiston. Don is the wife of the late Ann C. [Gerity] Calkins, who passed away in December of 2020. He is survived by his four children Donna Calkins of Hawaii, Paul (Eileen) Calkins of Sanborn, NY, Barbara Roberts of North Carolina and Mark (Barbara) Calkins of Stuyvesant Falls, NY , also four grandchildren, two great grandchildren, one great grandson, and many nephews. Mr. Calkins was the brother of the late Jeannette (late Wilfred) Hoffman. We would like to thank the staff of Our Lady of Peace for their kind and loving care. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, October 23, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. at Hope United Methodist Church, 2914 Upper Mountain Road, Sanborn, NY, officiated by Rev.
