Toronto police have identified the 36-year-old man killed in one of eight separate shootings across the city this weekend.
Police said officers located Donald Leroy “Smokey” Marson was shot in an apartment unit in the Keele Street and Eglinton Avenue West area shortly before 2:30 a.m. Saturday.
Marson was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police have not released any suspicious information in the case. He was the 69th homicide victim of the year.
The homicide unit is also investigating two other deadly shootings in the city on Saturday.
Just after 12:30 a.m., police found 28-year-old Kamal Daley lying on the ground in the Jane Street and Yorkwoods Gate area, south of Finch Avenue West.
Paramedics told CP24 that he was suffering from bullet wounds and was already dead at the scene.
Police said they saw evidence of gunfire nearby. No information was allegedly released in connection with the case.
On Saturday afternoon, a 20-year-old man was fatally shot in a parking lot in North York.
Police have not yet released the victim’s identity. They also did not share any suspect information.
Investigators will engage anyone with information about any incidents to contact them or Crime Stoppers.
“No matter how big or how small this information is, that could be the missing piece of the puzzle they need to solve these murders,” Const. Alex Li said.
“We will not leave any stone untouched. Our investigators will comb through all of their evidence, speak to all of their witnesses, and gather as much information as possible.”
Toronto police responded with five more shootings on Sunday.
At 3 a.m., a 17-year-old man was in a car when someone shot him in another vehicle. He was located on Highway 427 near Eglinton Avenue with serious but not fatal injuries.
A woman walked into a hospital around 5 a.m., suffering from serious but not life-threatening injuries. It is not known where the hunt took place.
Before 8 a.m. began, a man believed to be in his 30s was found suffering from severe gunshot wounds in the Eglinton and Oakwood avenues area.
“We’ve deployed all available resources to shooting incidents. Any shooting … one shot is already a lot in the city,” Li said.
“Gun violence is a priority for the Toronto Police Service. We take every shooting incident seriously.”
On Sunday night, shortly after 8 p.m., police were called to the shooting in the St. Louis city neighborhood. James Town. A man was taken to hospital in critical condition.
That night, a taxi driver was shot and killed in the Pharmacy Avenue and Eglinton Avenue East area.
The shootings prompted interim police Chief James Ramer to tweet: “Our @TorontoPolice officers & @TPSHomicide investigators are working long hours to solve the recent murders we have seen in our city. Everyone is committed to bringing justice to those affected by these tragedies. “
In a statement, Mayor John Tory said he spoke with Ramer about the incidents and expressed confidence that Toronto police are doing everything to catch the suspects.
“It’s an absolute tragedy every time someone in our city is killed. My thoughts are with the family and friends of the victims of the hunt,” Tory said.
“I, along with the Toronto Police, share a common commitment to keeping the city safe and I thank Chief Ramer and his team for the good work they are doing for us. While the number of shootings and lethal shootings in Toronto is less than last year, we must continue to do more work to further reduce gun violence in our city. “
