Cowboys for Trump Founder Open Trump Conference Speech Over Capitol Riot Charges

The Cowboys for Trump founder Couy Griffin, who faces charges related to the riot at the U.S. Capitol, opened the former president with a conference speech for abandoning the Jan. 6 rioters and failing in a campaign commitment.

Griffin faces criminal misdemeanor charges in the Jan. 6 uprising at the Capitol, in which he was seen attempting to lead a crowd of rioters into praying on an outdoor terrace. He supports Trump’s baseless claims of widespread voter fraud, but denied that he knew he entered on restricted grounds to disrupt Congress confirming President Joe Biden’s election victory.

“We supported President Trump because he was also fighting for justice. And for four years we cried, ‘Lock him up. Lock him up, lock him up.’ We knew he was a criminal. What did the president tell us? ‘If I’m in charge of the law, you’ll be jailed,’ “Griffin said Sunday at a QAnon conference in Las Vegas, Nevada.

“Mr. President, you have been in charge of the law for four years,” he added. “At the end of your four-year term, the only ones locked in are men like me, and others like me, whom the president stands for the strongest.”

In 2019, Griffin led a group of rodeo comrades to form Cowboys for Trump, who held parades to show support for the Trump administration.

Last month, Griffin defeated efforts to remember him as provincial commissioner in southern New Mexico. Under state rules, a petition for recall requires a number of signatures equal to 33.3 percent of participation in the previous election, and the petition falls short of the required signatures for a special election to be held. .

A group of Trump supporters, fueled by baseless allegations of a rigged election, rushed to the House and Senate Chamber on Jan. 6 to prevent Congress from proving Biden’s election victory.

Trump released a video on Jan. 7 clearly condemning the rioters. “Like all Americans I resent violence, lawlessness and fighting,” he said, adding that the mob has “tainted the seat of American democracy.”

More than 680 people have been charged with insurgency so far and some have argued in court documents that they are simply following the former president’s guidance.

In his legal defense, Capitol rioter Emanuel Jackson, a man in Washington, cited what Trump said at a “Stop the Steal” rally in Washington DC, which preceded the unrest.

“Fight like hell. We’re not going to take it anymore,” the former president said, as he urged his supporters to march on the Capitol.
