Trump Deposition to be Held in May Trial on Protester ‘Deposition

A judge has set a trial date in May for a lawsuit that is expected to include a video deposition of former President Donald Trump shot earlier this month.

The trial is for a civil case brought by a group of protesters who say Trump’s security team attacked them at a rally in 2015 outside the Trump Tower in New York. The case stalled during Trump’s presidency but has progressed since he left office.

“We are pleased to have a trial date and hope to present this case to a jury at that time,” Benjamin Dictor, an attorney representing the protesters, told Insider.

New York Supreme Court Judge Doris Gonzalez, who is overseeing the case, ordered the jury selection to begin on May 2. The trial itself will begin after the jury selection is completed.

Gonzalez greenlighted a Trump deposition earlier this month to be used as evidence in the case. Lawyers for the protesters ousted the former president for more than four hours in the Trump Tower on Oct. 18.

Protesters have sued Trump, his campaign, the Trump Organization, and members of Trump’s security team in the case, which was brought in September 2015.

Their lawyers subpoenaed Trump in the case, saying in court appearances that the guards attacked their clients as part of their official duties. They cited Trump’s comments at rallies where he told attendees to be violent towards people disrupting his events.

Trump refused to answer only “a handful” of deposition questions, according to Dictor, who is also an attorney for New York’s NewsGuild, which represents members of the Insider Union. Gonzalez has not decided whether Trump should be forced to answer those questions or how much to show to the jurors.

In a statement following the deposition, Trump called it “baseless harassment” but said he was “pleased to have the opportunity to tell my side of this ridiculous story.”

Many civil lawsuits have advanced against Trump now that he is no longer president.

Another New York state judge has ordered Trump to sit for a deposition in the coming months in a defamation lawsuit filed against him by former “Apprentice” contestant Summer Zervos after he openly denied his allegations of sexual assault and called his accusers liars.
