Trump Says He’s Going to Virginia ‘Soon’ After Biden Stunned for Terry McAuliffe

Former President Donald Trump announced plans to campaign for Glenn Youngkin for governor of Virginia less than 24 hours after President Joe Biden suggested the candidate was too embarrassed to be seen with his fellow Republicans.

“Chanting, ‘We love Trump’ in Arlington, VA. Thanks, Arlington, see you soon!” Trump said in a statement, referring to a moment when Biden was interrupted by supporters of the former president on stage.

His communications director, Taylor Budowich, tweeted that the state of Virginia loves Trump and that his “MagA movement will deliver a huge success to Trump-endorsed businessman @GlennYoungkin.”

Virginia’s governor’s career was deadlocked a week before Election Day, according to a Suffolk University poll on Tuesday. Democrat Terry McAuliffe narrowly leads with 46 percent over Youngkin by less than a point, or within the poll’s statistical margin of error.

Biden expects to bolster his party member’s campaign on Tuesday night despite his own decline in the approval rating. The Suffolk poll also showed that 52 per cent of respondents disagreed with the president and more than 66 per cent said they felt the country was heading in the wrong direction.

While campaigning for McAuliffe, Biden did not refrain from attacking Trump and he told voters that the Republican victory could damage democracy.

“Terry’s opponent doesn’t just embrace someone with a lack of character; he endorses Donald Trump’s bad ideas and bad record,” Biden said.

“But what’s really interesting to me, he’s not going to side with Donald Trump,” he continued. “Think about it. He won’t allow Donald Trump to campaign for him in this state. He’s willing to pledge his allegiance to Trump in private. Why not in public? What is he trying to hide? Is there a problem with Trump that here.? Is he embarrassed? “

Trump has endorsed Youngkin three times but has not campaigned publicly with the former president during his run as governor.

Virginia’s gubernatorial election, which takes place in an off-year, could provide insight into how the midterms will develop next year. The state is currently led by Democrat Governor Ralph Northam and party members hope to keep the state blue despite falling Biden’s approval ratings.

McAuliffe himself acknowledged the feelings of Virginia residents about the president in a video conference call last month.

‘The president is not popular now, unfortunately, here in Virginia, so we have to plow,’ said the gubernatorial candidate.

A spokesman for McAuliffe clarified that his point was “Democrats can’t ignore anything and should vote this year. Glenn Youngkin is running a divisive, Trumpian agenda that puts conspiracy theories into the election. and a ban on abortion first. “

It’s unclear when Trump plans to visit Virginia but his team said details will be released when appropriate.
