YOUNGSTOWN – Donald T. “Don” McMurray, 85, a longtime resident of the city’s West Side, died peacefully Monday night, Oct. 25, 2021, at Hospice House, with his family by his side.

Don was born on Feb. 28, 1936, in Youngstown, a son of the late Thomas and Coletta Vogelberger McMurray. He grew up on the South Side, attended St. Louis. Dominic Elementary School and graduated in 1954 from Woodrow Wilson High School.

After graduation, he proudly served in the Navy aboard the USS Bache (DD / DDE-470), from 1954 until his honorable discharge in 1956.

Mr. worked. McMurray at United Engineering for 32 years, until the company closed, and then worked 11 years for the Western Reserve Transit Authority, retiring in 1999.

Don enjoyed visiting the local casino and attending his grandchildren’s sporting events. He is a big fan of the Cleveland Indians, Cleveland Browns, Ohio State Buckeyes and the YSU Penguins.

He loved his family dearly, greatly enjoyed the time with his children and grandchildren, and enjoyed every family reunion, especially the monthly “night out” with his sons.

Mr. McMurray is a member of Our Lady of Sorrows Parish, Holy Name of Jesus Church in Youngstown.

Don left his 60 -year -old wife, Margaret “Margie” Kivon McMurray, whom he married on October 7, 1961, in the Holy Name of Jesus Church; his sons, Donald J. (Denise) McMurray of Canfield, David P. McMurray (fiancee Sharon Bueno) of Youngstown and Drs. Mark (Stephanie) McMurray of Canfield; six grandchildren, Kaylie (Dylan) Nielson, Kasey McMurray, Kori McMurray, Kristi (Jordan) Croucher, Scott (Maggie) McMurray and Blake McMurray; two great -grandchildren, Myles and Marley, along with another “going”; a sister, Mary Lou Sheets of Boardman; and a brother, John (JoAnn) McMurray of Virginia Beach.

One brother, Charles McMurray; and a sister, Donna J. Hoke, died.

Family and friends can call 10:30 to 11:30 am, Saturday, Oct. 30, 2021, at Kinnick Funeral Home, 477 N. Meridian Road, Youngstown, where funeral services will take place at 11:30 am

The committal with military honors will be followed by funeral home services and will go to Calvary Cemetery in Youngstown.

Don’s family is grateful to the staff of Briarfield Manor, to the staff of Hospice House, Dr. Thomas Albani, and especially to Drs. Mark Memo and Tina, for the kindness shown and compassionate care given.
