GolfWeek also added that several members of the media attended a private meeting in New York about Saudi plans, with details scheduled to be officially announced next week.

It is understood that a number of the best golfers in the world have been approached to take part in the mega-money series, including Bryson DeChambeau, Dustin Johnson and Phil Mickelson.

As the controversial league tried to poach some of the biggest games in the world, PGA Tour commissioner Jay Monahan made clear his stance on the series, as the Telegraph reported that players could be banned from the PGA Tour, and possibly even the Ryder Cup if they accept.

One person who continues to oppose the idea is four -time major winner Rory McIlroy, who fell short of plans earlier this year.
