Donald Trump hosts Indonesian president and international delegates at his Scots hotel for COP26

Climate change denier Donald Trump is hosting an international delegation from Indonesia for COP26 at his hotel in Ayrshire.

Joko Widodo, the president of Indonesia, was among a party staying at Mr Trump’s Turnberry resort in South Ayrshire, located 50 miles southwest of the Scottish Events Campus in Finnieston, Glasgow.

Two sources in Turnberry said the Indonesian delegation flew to Glasgow Prestwick Airport from a pre-COP gathering in Rome on Sunday night.

They were then taken by a convoy of vehicles south to Mr Trump’s property.

The delegation, including Mr Widodo, was traveling back and forth to the summit in Glasgow by car, the Scotsman reported.

It is understood that several officials from the Indonesian embassy in London are in Turnberry, as well as the country’s finance and foreign affairs ministers.

A Turnberry resident said the Indonesian flag was seen flying over the hotel on Monday.

A video uploaded to YouTube by an Indonesian broadcaster captured Mr Widodo arriving in Turnberry in a convoy of black SUVs, which were on the side of police motorcycles.

He will then be seen entering the hotel lobby, meeting with his own officials as well as members of the hotel staff.

A large security presence can also be seen within the historic area.

Mr Trump’s real estate company, the Trump Organization, has had ties with Indonesia in recent years.

In 2019, his eldest son Donald Jr. visited the country to promote two proposed Trump-branded resorts.

The event was held to promote properties – one in Bali, the other south of Jakarta – that have not yet been built, but feature hotels, golf courses, and residential units.

The project south of Jakarta has been designated as a special economic zone (SEZ) for tourism, which means it could benefit from corporate tax cuts.

Hary Tanoesoedibjo, an Indonesian billionaire property developer, is also involved in the initiative.

Mr Widodo’s administration was also regarded as an ally of Mr Trump during his tenure. Mr Trump described the 60-year-old as a “friend.”

Turnberry also hosted an event during COP26 organized by Asia House, a London-based think tank.

The event, which was attended by Mr Widodo and several members of his government, included a private briefing involving some of the members of the think tank corporation.
