There is no basis for former President Trump to say in a podcast last week that the gruesome incident on the set of “Rust” involving actor Alec Baldwin and cinematographer Halyna Hutchins may have been deliberate.
Baldwin shot Hutchins in October when he fired a prop gun containing a live round. Authorities are investigating the matter, but no cases have been filed so far. The 63-year-old actor said he was “fully cooperating” with the investigation.
Trump, who said he did not know the actor, told conservative podcast host Chris Stigall that he believed it was strange that Baldwin would be shot at a cinematographer and not at a fellow actor on set.
“Even if it could be kept, i.e., you know, the people taking care of the equipment and guns and everything else … But even if it was loaded, and that was a weird thing- maybe he loaded it, ”Trump said before discussing Baldwin’s impersonations on Saturday Night Live.

“He’s a cuckoo-bird, he’s a nutjob. And usually, when someone is like that, you know, in my opinion, he has something to do with it,” Trump said.
“But if it’s gone, how do you get a gun and just, whether it’s loaded or unloaded, how do you get a gun, point it to someone who’s not even in the movie and just point it at this person and pull the trigger. and now he’s dead? ” He added.
Baldwin issued a statement the day after the incident, saying “there are no words to express my shock and sadness about the tragic accident that claimed the life of Halyna Hutchins, a wife, mother and highly admired colleague of ours. . ”
“I am fully cooperating with the police investigation to address how this tragedy happened and I am in touch with his wife, who offers my support to him and his family. My heart is broken for his wife, their son, and to all who know and love Halyna, ”Baldwin said.
Baldwin called Monday for a police presence in all films and television specifically to monitor guns.
“Every movie/TV set that uses firearms, whether fake or otherwise, must have a police officer on the set, hired by the production, to specifically monitor the safety of the firearms,” read a tweet from on the foundation of Baldwin’s art.
