Ann Coulter calls Donald Trump ‘Abjectly Stupid’

Conservative pundit Ann Coulter has accused former President Donald Trump of “betraying” his base and being “abjectly stupid” in his inability to fulfill his promise to build a border wall.

Although Coulter wrote the bestseller On Trump We Trust, E Pluribus Awesome! before the 2016 presidential campaign, the right-wing firebrand became more critical of the former president.

In an interview with Andrew Sullivan’s Dishcast on Nov. 5, Coulter said he knew what Trump’s character was before he was elected but still supported him because of his immigration policy and commitment to build the wall on the southern U.S. border.

“I’m quite familiar with what a narcissistic, ridiculous, tacky, vulgar, coming person this is,” he told Sullivan. “That I knew about. The one thing I underestimated, in fact, didn’t see at all is, I had no idea how abjectly stupid the man is.”

He accused Trump of “not keeping his promises” and “direct infidelity on his basis,” made up of people “Americans who have been waiting their whole lives for someone who cares about them.”

He said that in 2016, when promoting In Trump We Trust, journalists would tell him: “‘ Oh, he’s not really going to build a wall, ’” he said. “I would laugh and say, ‘There’s not one thing he has to do is build the wall.’

“My theory is that if he doesn’t build a wall, he loses reelection. He doesn’t build a wall, he loses reelection,” she said. “I just can’t imagine anyone could be so stupid as to run into something and not do it.”

Coulter’s criticism of Trump has risen during his presidency and since he left office.

In 2018, he criticized Trump for his attacks on his then attorney general, Jeff Sessions, whom he said was “someone” in his administration “who did nothing about immigration.”

In May 2020, he called Trump “the most disloyal actual retard that has ever set foot in the Oval Office” after the former president called Alabama voters “don’t trust Jeff Sessions” and instead returned to Sessions ‘GOP Senate seat challenger, Tommy Tuberville.

He also criticized the former president for seeking Space Force funding instead of focusing on building a barrier on the Mexican border.

“Instead of building a wall to protect this country, at least maybe we can live on a new planet,” Coulter tweeted. However, in March 2019, Trump dismissed Coulter as a “wacky nut job” in a tweet in which he said: “I am winning on the border.”

In August 2021, Coulter praised President Joe Biden for “fulfilling a promise Trump made, but then abandoned when he was in office” in removing U.S. military troops from Afghanistan.
