Steve Bannon, Donald Trump’s former chief adviser, has been charged with two counts of contempt of Congress for refusing to cooperate with a committee investigating the Jan. 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol.
A federal grand jury released criminal charges last night against Bannon, 67, who was a close ally of Trump and senior adviser to the White House in the first months of his presidency.
He was charged in one case of refusing to appear before the House of Representatives committee and second for refusing to provide documents related to the riot, when Trump supporters stormed the Capitol in an attempt to prevent Congress from confirming the election victory by Joe Bidens.
If convicted Bannon could face up to two years in prison.
