Donald Trump’s longtime adviser Steve Bannon has been charged with two counts of contempt.

A fraudster Steve Bannon, longtime adviser to former president Donald Trump, turned to the FBI on Monday to face charges of contempt of Congress after refusing to testify in the Jan. 6 attack on the Capitol.

“It’s all noise,” he said of his indictment, as he arrived at the FBI’s Washington field office.

“I want you guys to stay focused on the message,” he said, promoting his “War Room” website. “We are overthrowing the Biden regime.”

On Friday, a federal grand jury indicted Bannon, 67, for refusing to testify or provide documents to the House Select Committee investigating the violent attack on the U.S. Congress by Trump supporters the day to prove Joe Biden as the winner in November. 2020 presidential election.

Investigators think Bannon and other aides and advisers to Trump may have had information on the links between the White House and the supporters who stormed the Capitol.

Bannon was charged with two counts of contempt, each with a sentence of one month to one year in prison.

The indictment is a significant victory for the House Select Committee, which is fighting Trump’s efforts to use the president’s privilege to block the committee from obtaining testimony and documents needed for the investigation.

“Steve Bannon’s accusation should send a clear message to anyone who thinks they can ignore the Select Committee or try to stonewall our investigation: no one is beyond the law,” committee chairman Bennie Thompson said. and vice chair Liz Cheney in a statement.

Bannon is expected to appear in court later Monday for an arraignment and is likely to be released on bail.

He was one of the first of dozens of people called to testify in the violent attack aimed at shutting down Congress over Trump’s baseless claim that Biden won the election because of widespread voter fraud.

The attack, in which five people were killed, succeeded in delaying the joint House-Senate election certification session for several hours.
