Downtown Winnipeg skywalk damaged by snow clearing equipment – Winnipeg

A downtown Winnipeg skywalk connected to the Canada Life Center has closed after the city said it was hit by snow-clearing equipment.

The overhead walkway covering Donald Street near Portage Avenue was hit by privately-owned equipment during overnight snow clearing-operations, a city spokesman said Tuesday.

The privately owned skywalk and the sidewalks beneath it are already closed to pedestrians.

The city said the skywalk owner contacted a structural engineer and contractor to access the damage before starting repairs.

Donald Street south of Portage Avenue was closed for a period on Tuesday as a result of the crash.

A city spokesman could not say how long the walkway or sidewalks beneath it would remain closed.
