SANTA ROSA BEACH, Fla. (AP)-A Florida couple is waging a legal battle in Panhandle county over banned banners showing support for former President Donald Trump.
Walton County officials said the large “Trump Won” and “Let’s Go Brandon” banners on the porch of Marvin and Paige Peavy’s home violate local signing ordinances. A fine of $ 50 a day is assessed.
“Let’s Go Brandon” is a political slogan popular with Republicans as a hooded, insulting dig against Democratic President Joe Biden. Walton County is in the deepest red part of Florida.
After beating an administrative code enforcement hearing last week, Peavy’s attorney Robbie Sickler told the Northwest Florida Daily News that he would take the couple’s case to circuit court and argue that the ordinance violates liberties protections. speech and selectively implemented based on citizen complaints.
“That’s the very meaning of selective enforcement, they don’t work based on an ordinance, they work based on who filed the complaint,” Sickler said. “That creates a hostile environment that mixes both against each other.”
