Cohen, who represented himself throughout the criminal trial, pleaded guilty in December 2018 to financing the campaign in misconduct, tax evasion and other violations.

The devastating impact of COVID-19 on the U.S. prison population resulted in Cohen’s early release from a federal facility in New York state. He spent more than a year in Otisville, New York, prison before being returned to his luxurious apartment on Park Avenue to serve the rest of his term.

He tried to end his house arrest on May 29, about six months earlier, and said he completed hundreds of hours of work and courses while incarcerated with several other white collar inmates in Otisville, about 75 miles ( 120 km) northwest of his apartment.

But a federal judge denied his request, ordering him to remain incarcerated in his home until Nov. 22, reflecting more than five months of credits for good behavior.
