Trump told Fox News that Sean Hannity in an interview Tuesday night that Rittenhouse contacted him requesting a meeting with former Mar-a-Lago Club presidents in Palm Beach, Florida.

I kind of got to know him, Trump said. He called. He wanted to know if he could come over and say hello because he was a fan. He approached with his mother. That’s really nice, young man.

Rittenhouse was charged with fatal shooting of two men and wounding of another during a racial justice protest on Aug. 25, 2020, in Kenosha, Wisconsin. He was acquitted by a jury on Friday after claiming he acted in self-defense.

Trump accused prosecutors of the misconduct case at Rittenhouses.

He shouldn’t suffer by trying for that, Trump said. He was going to die. If he hadn’t pulled that trigger, that man who put a gun to his head for a quarter of a second, he would have pulled the trigger.

The man Trump is referring to is Gaige Grosskreutz, who is the third person Rittenhouse has shot and survived. Grosskreutz testified during the trial that he approached Rittenhouse believing he was an active shooter and he pointed a gun at Rittenhouse before he was shot by the 17 -year -old then.

Trump’s comments are consistent with what he did about Rittenhouse’s case while in office.

The former president said in August of 2020 that Rittenhouse would have “probably been killed” if he hadn’t acted, adding that the video he saw showed Rittenhouse “trying to get away from them, I think, it seems.”

“It’s something we’re looking at now, and it’s under investigation, but I think he’s in huge trouble, and … he was probably murdered,” Trump said at the time.
