Cohen, who officially ended his sentence last week after serving three years in prison and home imprisonment for tax fraud, violating campaign finance laws and lying to congress, told Meet The Press that re -running for office would ruin “” Trump. big grift ”—his ability to earn donations from supporters under the guise of potentially running again.
Cohen said many of Trump’s supporters donated to him because of the “big lie” —T Trump’s false claim that the 2020 election was “stolen” from him.
If Trump loses in 2024, “which he will,” Cohen said, “what will happen to the big lie? He can’t be like the boy screaming wolf … and that’s where his money goes.”
Large Numbers
$ 56 million. That’s how much money Trump raised in donations in the first six months of 2021 through WinRed, the Republican party’s main donations website, the New York Times reported. This week, he said he would “very easily” win the Republican party’s nomination. In October, Trump’s former press secretary Stephanie Grisham spoke to “warn people” that if Trump wins again “it’s about revenge” and his second administration will be “worse off” because they don’t have to worried about re-election. In July, former Trump spokesman Jason Miller said there was a 50/50 shot that Trump would run again.
