Covid sources: Donald Trump unveiled the new Wuhan lab theory in the podcast

Former US President Donald Trump gave detail to a wild theory about what happened in Wuhan when Covid-19 first appeared.

“What happened in Wuhan – I don’t think you want to know.”

That’s how former US President Donald Trump responded to questions about the Covid-19 lab leak theory in a conversation with The Australian’s Sharri Markson, published on Saturday.

Speaking in an extended 30-minute interview on the What Really Happened in Wuhan podcast, Mr Trump said there were likely pictures of body bags piled up outside the Wuhan Institute of Virology when Covid-19 first appeared in the early days. of 2020.

“I think it’s a terrible situation,” he said.

“Common sense told you (the coronavirus) that most likely, when I said most likely, like 95 percent, came from the Wuhan lab.

“I don’t know if they have bad thoughts or if it’s too much incompetence, but one way or another … it came from the Wuhan lab. When you mention it in the United States, they’re really crazy. I have no idea why.”

Mr Trump said he had heard theories about corpses on the street but he had no proof.

“I’m starting to hear stories that you have too, that there are a lot of body bags outside the lab,” he told The Australian.

“People say a lot of people are lying on the streets in Wuhan. And there are bodybags.

“That’s what I hear and I’ve heard for a long time. If they have bodybags, that’s a small indication isn’t it?

“I don’t know it for a fact but that was a rumor … I don’t know where it came from, probably in China.

“There were many rumors that there were dead people… on the street in that area near the lab.

“I heard there were (pictures) of it.”

The lab leak theory is not new. China has denied claims that the pandemic started in a laboratory.

When Australia called for an independent inquiry into the origin of the pandemic, China responded by imposing sanctions on Australia.

Relations between the two countries are still tense and leaders Scott Morrison and Xi Jinping have not spoken despite Canberra’s repeated attempts to reach the middle ground.

Markson himself was targeted by China for his theory reporting.

China’s government propaganda newspaper China Daily tweeted the following message in August to its 4.2 million followers: “Australian journalist Sharri Markson is an active fan of the Wuhan leak conspiracy theory fire lab and politicize investigations into the origin of Covid in the US right wing. “

China Daily reporter Xu Pan Yiru said in a video about Markson’s reporting: “If you think about the Wuhan lab-leak theory, you’d probably think that the U.S. media played a big role in promoting conspiracy. “

The lab leak theory contradicts the findings of the World Health Organization, which found in March that the pandemic was likely to spread from animals to humans.

Former United States Secretary of State Mike Pompeo previously told Markson that there is “enormous, albeit indirect, evidence that the Wuhan Institute of Virology is central to this”.

“The cumulative evidence that one can see is the points at the Wuhan Institute of Virology,” he said.

“The most likely source of Covid-19 is a lab leak from the Wuhan Institute of Virology-this is certainly a possibility, and perhaps a certainty,” added John Ratcliffe, the administration’s former director of national intelligence.

He said if the virus naturally jumped from bats to humans via the Wuhan wet market, which is a widely accepted theory, it would not explain why the Chinese government acted the way it did in weeks and months after the virus appeared.
