Rep. Liz Cheney (R-Wyo.) Made public on Monday text messages sent to former White House chief of staff Mark Meadows from several Fox News hosts and Donald Trump Jr., urging her on Jan. 6 to pick up former President Donald Trump for denouncing his supporters participating in the unrest at the Capitol.

Cheney was the vice chair of the House select committee investigating the attack on the Capitol, and shared messages before the panel voted to contempt Meadows for violating their subpoena. Meadows, working with lawmakers, moved thousands of documents to the panel from Jan. 6, but then withdrew, saying the committee wanted him to discuss matters protected under executive privilege.

Cheney read some text messages sent to Meadows in January. 6, all of them in a hurry, begging Meadows that Trump act. Fox News host Laura Ingraham texted Meadows, “Hey Mark, the president needs to tell the people at the Capitol to go home … we’re all hurting … he’s ruining his legacy.” Another Fox News host, Brian Kilmeade, told Meadows, “Please have him on TV. It destroys everything you’ve done.” Sean Hannity, a Fox News host and friend of Trump, asked Meadows, “Can he make a statement? … Ask people to leave the Capitol.”

Requests also came from Trump’s relatives, including his eldest son, who asked Meadows to take his father to “condemn it s-t ASAP. The Capitol Police tweet was not enough.” Meadows replied, “I push it hard. I agree.” Trump Jr. replied, “We need an Oval address. He needs to rule now. It’s gone too far and out of control.”

Hours after rioters stormed the Capitol, Trump released a video in which he asked people to “go home,” while still saying the 2020 presidential election was “fraudulent.” He added, “We love you. You’re very special. … I know how you feel.”
