Donald Parham left Thursday’s home game against the Chiefs on a stretcher after suffering an apparent head injury in the first quarter and was taken to UCLA Harbor Medical Center for further evaluation. He was undergoing tests, imaging and testing for head injury and was in stable condition Thursday night, the team said.
Replays showed Parham’s head slammed into the turf after catching a pass behind the end zone. He lost control of the ball after his head hit the ground, and replays showed him unconscious, lying on the turf with his eyes closed and his arms fixed in a fixed position away from his body.
The injury came in a fourth-and-goal play at the Kansas City 5-yard line in the opening drive of the game. No Chiefs player contacted Parham in play. Medical personnel removed Parham’s facemask. Replays show him moving his left hand, squeezing a trainer’s arm.
Parham, 24, is a second -year player with 20 catches for 190 yards and three touchdowns.
The Chiefs won the game in overtime, 34-28.
