Washington [US], Dec. 20 (ANI): Former US President Donald Trump has spoken out against the idea of boycotting the 2022 Winter Olympics in China, and said such actions hurt athletes. “No, because I watched Jimmy Carter to do it [in 1980] and it was awful. It was horrible. It hurts athletes. There are more powerful things we can do than that, “Trump said in an interview with Fox News, which aired on Sunday. The former president even said he wanted to see the U.S. compete and win” every single medal, ” Sputnik reports.
Earlier in the month, the Joe Biden administration announced that the U.S. would not send an official delegation to the 2022 Winter Olympics because of China’s alleged human rights violations. Several countries including Australia, Britain and Canada have also announced that they will boycott diplomacy because of the Chinese government’s human rights abuses of Muslim Uyghurs. France said last week that it would not boycott on a break from other Group of Seven industrialized countries. Meanwhile, Russian President Vladimir Putin on Wednesday announced his willingness to attend the opening ceremony of the Olympics. (ANI)
