Republican governor says Trump’s re -election bid would be ‘bad’ for GOP and US

Republican Maryland Gov. “Fox News Sunday” host Bret Baier asked Hogan if he believes the Republican Party could win in 2024 with Trump as its nominee.

“I think that’s going to be bad for the party and bad for President Trump and bad for the country. So I don’t think he’s going to run, and I will – my advice is he didn’t,” Hogan said.

Hogan, who is currently serving his second term as governor and banned from running for a third, was asked if he would consider running for the presidency even if Trump ran again.

“I will be governor until Jan. 23 [2023], and then I’ll look at what the options are after that, ”he replied.

In his interview, Hogan also mentioned the issues facing his state, including the omicron variant of COVID-19. The Maryland governor predicted that the new variant of the concern would soon become the dominant strain in his state.

“I would say over the next two days omicron will be the dominant variant in our state, and we expect the next three to five weeks to be probably the worst climb we’ve seen in our hospitals throughout the crisis,” he said. Hogan. “But we didn’t expect it to last long. We were hoping it would start to taper off pretty quickly, but we were faced with a pretty difficult time.”
