After entering Avengers: Endgame in 2019, Fortnite chief creative officer Donald Mustard is reviving his acting career for a cameo in The Matrix 4.

Fans saw Fortnite’s chief creative officer Donald Mustard at The Matrix Resurrections. A new movie has just been released in theaters and on HBO Max with no shortage of nods to how technology has changed the world since The Matrix Revolutions. One of the ways it changes is through gaming and Metaverse, something that Epic Games seems to be very interested in Fortnite. The Matrix Resurrections seems to want to nod through a short cameo.

Last month, a Fortnite and Matrix crossover leaked, suggesting that Neo was coming to the beloved shooter. This crossover hasn’t been formally announced yet, but since Spider-Man: No Way Home also has skins in the game, Epic is possibly trying to give space to the same crossover. It’s also possible that the leak was incorrect and nothing was happening, but due to the fact that Epic also worked on The Matrix Awakens, it was a strange oversight from all parties.

However, director Lana Wachowski wants to do more than just let Epic make a playful experience in the Matrix. Fortnite CCO Donald Mustard and Epic Games CTO Kim Liberi were given short speaking roles at The Matrix Resurrections (via HYPEX on Twitter), allowing industry figures to have a little time on screen with Keanu Reeves . It’s easy to miss if viewers don’t pay attention or don’t know what Mustard or Liberi looks like, but it’s a fun Easter egg for fans nonetheless.

Earlier this month, Epic Games released The Matrix Awakens, which is a free playable experience that showcases the power of Unreal Engine 5. It allows players to explore a fully rendered city, enter into a violent car chase with the agents, and get some meta interaction. with Keanu Reeves and Carrie-Anne Moss. It’s a really impressive technical showcase that also has fans seeking a new, valid Matrix video game. Given Epic’s immense status in the gaming industry, Warner Bros. could be approached. the developer to make a new Matrix game, but nothing has been announced or teased about it.

Mustard has helped many big directors and studios in Hollywood bring their stories and characters to Fortnite, so it’s a bit ironic to see him today in a simulation at The Matrix Resurrections. If his friendly relationship with Lana Wachowski will allow Epic to have a chance to make a new game, not only that, but it’s not just the fans who are hopeful.
