DONALD VanCURA, 86, a longtime resident of Lapeer, died on Sunday, Dec. 19, 2021. He was born Nov. 26, 1935 in Brown City, to Frank and Mary (Gubanche) VanCura.
Don graduated in 1953 from Brown City High School and is proud to have served his country in the U.S. Army from 1955-1957. Upon his return, he took a job at Air Craft Specialty in Lapeer. Don married the love of his life, Phyllis Agnes Garwolds, on October 18, 1958 in St. Louis. Paul Lutheran Church in Lapeer where he remained a member and served as an usher. In 1958, he hired General Motors, working at the AC Spark Plug Plant for most of his career. Don retired from General Motors in 1992 and continued to work for nearly 25 years at Lapeer County Bank as a courier. At home, Don always helps others… mowing the lawns and shoveling for many of the “widows” in the neighborhood.
Mr. VanCura has a love of sports. He enjoyed playing in many basketball and softball leagues. He also remained active in overseeing high school and church basketball games.
Above all, Don is a loving, loyal, and helpful Husband and Father. She always puts the family first and she is there to support her children and grandchildren in everything they do, especially at their sporting events. Don was loved by everyone who knew him and will be missed.
