Donald Trump Endorsed the Governor of Alaska, But Under One Condition

Donald Trump has no problem endorsing the incumbent Alaska governor, Mike Dunleavy, and he is proud to have done so. That endorsement, however, comes with a warning: Dunleavy had better not endorse an Alaska senator, whom the former president regarded as a suspected enemy.

“Alaska needs Mike Dunleavy as governor now more than ever,” Trump said in a statement (via The Hill). “He has my complete and total endorsement but, this endorsement is subject to his non-endorsement of Senator Lisa Murkowski who has been very bad for Alaska. In other words, if Mike endorses him, which is his prerogative, my endorsement to him is void, and has no further force or effect! “

Trump has not been happy with Murkowski since he voted not to overturn the Affordable Care Act in 2017, according to NBC News. This is something he promised to do during his 2016 campaign and can be considered a crowning success. However, he grew angry with the GOP senator after it voted to convict him in his second impeachment trial for inciting the attacks on Jan. 6 (via the Associated Press).

Murkowski is up for re -election in 2022 and faces a difficult battle, as his impeachment vote angered many Republicans in his state, according to the Washington Post.
