Texas Agriculture Commissioner Sid Miller revealed in a Facebook post to his 839,000 followers that he received the endorsement of former President Donald J. Trump in his re-election campaign.
Miller – an early and vocal supporter of Trump since the early days of his campaign in 2016 – is running for his third term as state agriculture commissioner.
“Yesterday, I received a phone call from my best friend, President Donald J. Trump, from his Florida home in Mar-a-Lago. President Trump thanked me for his stand in 2016 and 2020 and he told me that I had ‘full, unwavering support and endorsement in my re-election campaign for Texas Commissioner of Agriculture,’ ”Miller wrote in Facebook post.
“As I campaign across Texas, my vision will reflect President Trump’s vision of a country where we have always put the American people first and have the top priority to defend our fundamental freedoms,” he added.
Trump’s post-presidential office did not immediately respond to a request for confirmation or comment on the Facebook post.
Miller’s Facebook page has gotten under investigation because he sometimes uses it to spread misinformation or promote right -wing political conspiracy theories.
Miller will face two Republican challengers in the March primary, Texas House Rep. James White of East Texas and Carey Counsil, a rancher and economics professor at Blinn College.
Democrats who filed to run for the seat were Brazos County businessman Ed Ireson and Susan Hays, an attorney active in making and advancing the 2019 hemp law.
