ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP) – Alaska Gov. Mike Dunleavy received conditional endorsement from former President Donald Trump for his re -election campaign in 2022, a campaign spokesman said Friday.
Trump told Dunleavy earlier this week that he would endorse him on the condition that he would not support the Republican U.S. Sen. Lisa Murkowski for re -election. Trump vowed revenge against Murkowski and other Republican lawmakers who supported his impeachment in the insurgency on Jan. 6. He endorsed Murkowski’s main challenger, Kelly Tshibaka.
“Please tell the President thank you for the endorsement,” said a message from Dunleavy on Trump’s Save America PAC website. “On another issue, please tell the President that he has nothing to worry about. I appreciate all that 45 has done for Alaska and this country.”
Andrew Jensen, a spokesman for Dunleavy’s re -election campaign, confirmed to the Anchorage Daily News that the message was sent by the governor.
“This is a written message from the governor to Trump’s people,” Jensen told the Anchorage newspaper.
Jensen said he did not know if the message was meant to be public.
“Even though it’s intended to be private, it’s still consistent,” Jensen said.
