Ram is tough

The St. The Louis Rams were actually one of the teams that passed the pick to Aaron Donald in the first round of the 2014 NFL draft. The Pittsburgh star defensive lineman was the Rams ’second choice in the first round. How were the players chosen before the best defensive player in the league became for their teams?
1. Houston Texans, Jadeveon Clowney
USED
The defensive end from South Carolina is thought of as a generational player, certainly a franchise guy. He wasn’t like that and ended up bouncing off every team. He went to the Pro Bowls from 2016-18 but is now on his fourth team, third in the last three seasons.
2. St. Louis Rams, Greg Robinson
Denny Medley-USA TODAY Sports
Why draft Aaron Donald using the second draft pick when you can pick Auburn OT Greg Robinson? This pick didn’t go well for the Rams, so they can be thankful they used their second first-rounder to pick Donald. For Robinson, three teams and none in the NFL after 2018.
3. Jacksonville Jaguars, Blake Bortles
Thomas B. Shea-USA TODAY Sports
The Jaguars stayed in the state and took Blake Bortles from UCF. Quite a bust.
4. Buffalo Bills, Sammy Watkins
Timothy T. Ludwig-USA TODAY Sports
The Bills took Sammy Watkins from Clemson. He was hurt during his career and played for many teams, which apparently never settled anywhere for more than a few seasons. He is with the Baltimore Ravens currently and has 348 career receptions, 34 for touchdowns.
5. Oakland Raiders, Khalil Mack
Cary Edmondson-USA TODAY Sports
Linebacker Khalil Mack is a very good Raiders option. A mute decision decided to swap him with the Chicago Bears for a bunch of draft picks that didn’t go through. He has 76.5 sacks but hasn’t reached double figures since 2018.
6. Atlanta Falcons, Jake Matthews
Stan Szeto-USA TODAY Sports
He came from a royal football family but did not play to the standard set by others for him. He was solid, playing in every game except 2014 when he appeared at 15. He made 127 starts.

7. Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Mike Evans
Kim Klement-USA TODAY Sports
The Buccaneers removed Mike Evans from Texas A&M, one of Aggie’s three first-rounders in 2014 to become a star. If you’re wondering who else was selected from College Station along with Matthews and Evans – what about Johnny Manziel? Evans had 600 receptions for better than 9,200 yards and 73 touchdowns.
8. Cleveland Browns, Justin Gilbert
Ken Blaze-USA TODAY Sports
The Browns entered the Big 12 and took on Oklahoma State DB Justin Gilbert. Atleast they didn’t reach Manziel here. (He was the 22nd overall pick in the first round.) Gilbert was not in the NFL after 2016.
9. Minnesota Vikings, Anthony Barr
Brad Rempel-USA TODAY Sports
Anthony Barr is the Walter Payton Man of the Year candidate for the Vikings this season. He has done a solid job defending Minnesota, even though he has seen his share of dings and dents.
10. Detroit Lions, Eric Ebron
Raj Mehta-USA TODAY Sports
Surprisingly, someone the Lions expected to be a franchise player in the tight end didn’t turn out well for Detroit. He stays in the league, playing for the Steelers. He had 186 catches during his four years at Detroit.
11. TennesseeTitans, Taylor Lewan
USED
The Titans sank into the Big Ten and got a big offensive tackle on Taylor Lewan. He has been an inspirational leader and top player for Tennessee.
12. New York Giants, Odell Beckham Jr.
Brad Penner-USA TODAY Sports
The Giants got a talented wide receiver from LSU to Odell Beckham Jr. With his incredible ability, he also brought a lot of attitude. Beckham lost his reception with the Big Blue and the Cleveland Browns. He is currently great for the Los Angeles Rams.
13. St. Louis Rams, Aaron Donald
Michael Chow-Arizona Republic
The Rams earned platinum when they drafted Donald in Pittsburgh. His brilliance and strength are unparalleled. Double-teams, triple-teams, no problem. Donald has 98 sacks in the race and has reached double digits for five years in a row.
