Donald Trump said the Capitol Riot was inside work from the Fed

Donald Trump leans on the conspiracy theory that the attack on the U.S. Capitol by his ginned-up supporters is actually a false flag plan developed by the FBI or some other federal government agency.

On Sunday, Trump released a statement praising Revolver News, a conspiratorial right-wing website that makes baseless claims that the attack on the Capitol was planned by the FBI. The website has been repeatedly exaggerated by Fox News ’Tucker Carlson amid his FBI entrapment claims. Trump is now celebrating how Revolver exposed “Fedsurrection” despite the efforts of the “fake news” media.

Congratulations to Darren Beattie and Revolver News who exposed so many false statements by Fake News on January 6th. Because of Darren’s work, and others, Americans don’t buy into the Unselect Committee’s attempts to anoint 75 million (plus!) Americans. The newly created term “Fedsurrection!”

There are a few things to unpack here, so let’s take them one by one.

First, before Trump embarked on the idea that the Capitol riot was a feds setup, he repeatedly defended his group of supporters as “patriotic” and “great people”.

Second, the storming in the Capitol happened on January 6, 2021, meaning Trump is still the president. If it was a “Fedsurrection” as Trump and Revolver claimed, it happened under the watchful eye of his administration and his Department of Justice.

Third, there is not yet convincingly solid evidence that the chaos in the Capitol was fueled by the FBI.

While Trump and his allies tried to blame Antifa and Black Lives Matter for the chaos (despite no evidence), others ran into the conspiracy that the FBI orchestrated the events of that day. Politifact confirmed that those arrested and charged for the Jan. 6 riot were Trump supporters, and they dismissed Revolver’s statements that the riot was instigated by an FBI informant connected to Oath Keepers.
