Nikki Fried thinks Donald Trump will try to ‘destroy’ Ron DeSantis in politics

When news broke that Donald Trump was tweaking Gov. Ron DeSantis for avoiding questions about his COVID-19 booster vaccine, Agriculture Commissioner Nikki Fried cheered in a tweet: “It’s happening!”

Earlier this week, Trump urged “disgusted” politicians to “say” if they got the shot. Those comments are widely interpreted as a dig at DeSantis, who only said he had a “normal shot” when asked if he got a booster.

Fried thinks the booster shot back and forth is just the beginning of issues between the Governor and his former political patron. In Jacksonville Thursday for gubernatorial campaign events, Fried predicted the former President would complicate the prospects for DeSantis ’re-election, possibly trying to“ destroy ”the Governor.

“What I think will happen is we all know that President Trump wants to run for President again, and so does Gov. DeSantis. And so you’re going to have two individuals who get into trouble, ”Fried said.

Fried did not end with the prognosis.

“And Trump is not someone to sit down. He’s the creator of DeSantis. And he fundamentally believes he can destroy DeSantis.

Trump certainly took credit for raising the Governor’s politics.

In numerous rallies and interviews since DeSantis was elected in 2018, Trump told the story of DeSantis asking a then-reluctant President for endorsement against Adam Putnam, the former Agriculture Commissioner whose campaign was derailed because of Trump’s shaking up of the Governor’s race.

Trump predicted that if he runs again as President, DeSantis will not run. But DeSantis has not promised that he will not run as President, which seems to resent Trump. Instead, DeSantis tends to divert the question.

“It is far from the road. It’s not anything I’m planning on doing, ”DeSantis said in an appearance on the Fox News Channel last fall.

Despite DeSantis saying he’s not interested, the prediction and betting markets continue to rate him as the top non-Trump 2024 possibility for Republicans.
