MARSHALL – Services for Donald Schultz, 90, of Marshall are 11 am Thursday at Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church in Marshall. The interment is at Marshall Cemetery. Next will be a luncheon for the attendees, back in the basement of the church. The visit is from 4-7 pm today at Hamilton Funeral Home in Marshall. The evening will end with a prayer service scheduled for 7 pm The visitation will continue one hour before the service on Thursday, from 10 a.m. until the time of services at 11 a.m., at the church.

He died on Saturday, Jan. 15, 2022, under hospice care, at his home in Marshall.

Donald Eugene Schultz was born on January 17, 1931, in Grandview Township, near Ghent. He is the son of Floyd and Ella (Geske) Schultz. Don grew up on the family farm and was baptized and confirmed at Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church in Marshall. He attended Marshall Public Schools graduating class in 1948. After graduation, Don spent two years in college in Brookings, South Dakota.

On May 20, 1951, Don joined Dora Willard at Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church in Marshall. They went home to Lynd and then South Marshall to the family farm. Don worked for several years as a carpenter before his farming endeavors began in 1960.

Don is a lifelong member of Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church in Marshall, where he always shows up early. Don has served in various capacities there including church council, youth leader, and elder. He was active outdoors and enjoyed hunting and fishing while not working on the farm. He survived many near disasters over the years that allowed him to play softball in his 60s and volleyball in his 70s. Don enjoyed betting on those sports and sitting down for a game of cards where he taught his kids how to bid properly. He often said, “You have to bid to win. You don’t win when you walk out the back door. ”

Don is survived by his 6 children, Marlys Skaar of Minneota, Marlin (and Jody) Schultz of Morgan, Wally Schultz of Tracy, Wendy (and Gary) St. Aubin of Marshall, Laurie McVey of Marshall, Lonny (and Kathy) Schultz of Marshall; 21 grandchildren, Oona (and Jared) Olson, Lisa (and Jon) Fadness, Wade Skaar, Christian (and Karla) Schultz, Brita (and Kyle) Lage, Lindsay Schultz, Nathan Schultz, Kelly Schultz, Cole Schultz, Tasha Schultz, MacKenzie (at Jade) Swank, Brandi (at Chris) Lahn, Melissa (at Chad) Nissen, Courtney (at Ben) Blomme, Thane Hemish, Andy Hemish, Trevor Hemish, Adam (at Erin) McVey, Trisha (at Jordan) Phillips, Derek Schultz, Brock Schultz; 22 great -grandchildren and 2 more on the road; nephews, other relatives and many friends.

Don preceded the death of his wife Dora; parents, Floyd and Ella Schultz; son -in -law, Wayne Skaar; brother, Alton Schultz; and sister, Delores Holland.
