Funeral service for Donald Sorensen, 84, of Halliday, will be 10:00 am Tuesday, Jan. 25, 2022 at Stevenson Funeral Home, Dickinson. The funeral will take place at Halliday Cemetery.

The visitation will be 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm Monday, January 24, 2022 at Stevenson Funeral Home, Dickinson, where a prayer service will take place at 6:00 pm.

Donald rode his last sunset on Wednesday, January 19, 2022. Born in Halliday, on September 18, 1937, he was the second of five children born to Christian (Chris) and Marguerite (Lynch) Sorensen.

Don met his forever sweetheart, Jacqueline Schettler on Halliday, and married her on June 21, 1954. Over the years, the couple adopted three children Don Jr., Denise, and Doug and eventually blessed with six grandchildren and ten great -grandchildren.

Don was hardworking. He was a ranch hand; worked in construction for the family business, Sorensen Brothers; ownership of the old Texaco Service station in Halliday; drove the Halliday School bus route; and drove semi for companies such as Koch, Flat Broke Trucking and Double S Trucking (of which he is the part owner). Clif Mossett said Don was the youngest cowboy on the last big cattle drive before they flooded the river. Don always says they broke the ground by flooding.

Don enjoyed NASCAR, hunting; yard work (including working on lawn mowers); and carjacking. He loves everything western from watching movies and television shows to rodeo, roping and horse breaking. He has been described as the epitome of John Wayne, often reminding others of the on-screen persona. A man with a firm stance in which he did not doubt. An honest man, incapable of lying. A force whose presence in a room goes unnoticed. A good friend and talker. He loved the deep, the practical, but the subtle. We thought he would not be destroyed.

Don was preceded in death by his parents, Christian and Marguerite Sorensen, In-laws, John and Agatha Schettler; Brothers and sister -in -law, Howard (Wayne) and Beth Sorensen; Sister and brother -in -law, Billie (Faye) and Gary Frafford; Sister, Joy Burr; Brothers and sisters -in -law Delbert and Katherine (Kay) Schettler, older brother and sister -in -law Donald and Kathlene (Kay) Voigt, and granddaughter Shannon Dean Wolf.

He is survived by his 67 -year -old girlfriend, Jacqueline (Jacky); Children: Donald Sorensen Jr., Denise (Dennis) Bohrer, and Douglas (Merlein) Sorensen; Grandchildren: Heather (Chris) Gerard, Tally (Cody) Kleemann, Tyrel (Erin) Sorensen, Payden (Cara) Sorensen and John Sorensen; Great -grandchildren: Seth Wolf; Hatten Kleemann, MaKlain Kleemann, Anistyn Sorensen, Martin Kleemann, Cree Sorensen, Huxley Sorensen, Holte Sorensen, Hayze Sorensen and Remington Sorensen; Brother: Daryl Sorensen; Brother -in -law: Evan Burr; Sisters-in-law: Carole (Louis) Treiber, and Marlene (Roger) Ives; Brother -in -law: Jerry (Anne) Schettler and several nephews.
