Boris Johnson was compared to Donald Trump amid SNP claims that the Tory leader had ‘despised’ his office

Ian Blackford accused the Prime Minister of “disrespecting office in the same way as Donald Trump” as he changed calls for him to resign.

Prior to the publication of Sue Gray’s report at the partygate, the SNP leader Westminster launched a personal attack on the Prime Minister.

Blackford described Johnson as: “Someone who treats being PM as a personal fiefdom. He doesn’t think the rules apply. I think the man is a disgrace to the way he handles himself. He doesn’t acknowledge responsibility. that and he is acting the Trumpian way. ”

While Westminster awaits Whitehall executive Sue Gray’s report, Blackford said the partygate scandals on Downing Street were a distraction from issues that should be at the center of politics.

The SNP leader said: “We should talk about Ukraine, about the cost of living crisis, but everything is framed around this one person, the Prime Minister, he is the one who is disturbing and he has to leave.”

“He belittles office in the same way as Donald Trump. We need to make sure that all of us, members of the opposition, Conservative MPs, take responsibilities and make sure this person leaves office.”

Blackford will face Johnson in the Commons at the Prime Minister’s Question at noon Wednesday and is expected to make a statement to MPs soon after Sue Gray’s report is published.

The senior civil servant’s interrogation is expected to end this week with widespread expectations of making it public on Wednesday or Thursday.

An indication of how damaging the report was for the Government came when Scotland Yard chief Dame Cressida Dick announced a police investigation was underway, based in part on the evidence obtained by the Gray investigation.

Johnson received overwhelming support Wednesday morning from cabinet colleague Liz Truss, the Foreign Secretary.

Truss, who is viewed as a top candidate to replace Johnson, said: “He has admitted that mistakes have been made and I am 100 percent supportive of him, and I want him to continue as Prime Minister.”
