Former Vice President Mike Pence was pressed in an interview recently about his relationship with former President Donald Trump. Pence admitted that he and Trump no longer talked regularly, and in fact did not talk much last year, following the pro-Trump riots that led to the invasion of the U.S. Capitol and attempts to insurrection on January 6, 2021, while Pence was presiding over a joint session of Congress.
However, he claims that when their administration ended in disgrace, the two “separated properly.”

On FOX News, Jesse Watters – host of the new primetime program Jesse Watters Primetime – asked Pence, “When was the last time you spoke to President Trump? Are you all right? ”
“You know, we talked last summer,” Pence replied. “I have said many times, January 6 is difficult, difficult. It is a tragic day in the life of the country. I know I did my duty under the United States constitution, but we sat president in the days that followed, we talked about it, we talked about it, we parted ways. “
Not surprisingly, this contradicts previous statements Pence made about his relationship with Trump, which he played out in the months immediately after leaving the White House. “You know, President Trump and I have talked a lot of times since we left office,” Pence told the crowd in June.
“We’ve probably talked a dozen times since the inauguration,” he said in September. “I can tell you that we split up nicely at the end of the administration, and we’ve talked a few times since we both left office,” he told Fox News in October.
Trump has notably refused to condemn the rioters or the violation of the Capitol in the haste of Jan. 6, and insists that the 2020 election- which many Trump supporters seek to prevent Pence and members of Congress from certify – is “stolen.” The chants of “Hang Mike Pence” continued as the rioters approached the Vice President.
Hours before electoral college certification, Trump contacted Pence to try to persuade him to step down and try to reverse the election results.
“You can go down in history as a patriot,” Trump told Pence, “or you can go down in history as a pussy.”
Trump has since clarified that he believes Pence should have reversed Biden’s victory that day in the Senate. In an interview in October, Trump shrugged off the rioters’ actions with ABC’s Jonathan Karl, saying, “Well, people are furious,” and their response was “common sense.”
“I think Mike was very hurt by what happened on January 6,” Trump said in December. “I think he’s been hurt badly, honestly, because I can see the reaction he’s getting from people.”
Before Trump’s lap dog-turned-punching bag, Pence was the governor of Indiana and a Congressman known for his strong opposition to LGBTQ rights and failed management of an HIV outbreak in Hoosier state under his care. .
Pence has a long history of engaging with religious rights organizations that promote the most right-wing ideology and is accepted by the Heritage Foundation, an anti-LGBTQ think tank. The organization has had a large presence in the Trump administration, manipulating policies from behind-the-scenes.
Pence is believed to be a candidate for the 2024 GOP nomination for President, but it is complicated because Trump has not decided to run himself. In addition to his remaining favor with the Republican Party majority, he has openly considered other vice presidential candidates, and politicians believe Pence will not consider any role if Trump runs or has anything to say. who to choose.
If evidence of his lack of influence is needed, many conservatives have condemned Watters for “fluffing” him in his first week of primetime hosting.

If at the moment Fox really cares about the issue instead of using factoids to create outrage, well, it might be worth reading. Until then…
