Donald Trump Should Not Be President Again

Arkansas Gov. clarified. Asa Hutchinson (R) on Saturday said he did not want former President Donald Trump to run – or win – a second term.

“I don’t believe Trump will lead our party and our country again, as president,” Hutchinson told Insider at a National Governors Association meeting.

Hutchinson, the chairman of NGA, told Insider that determining who should be president instead is “what the election is about,” and cited many possible options.

“The Republican Party has a lot of different voices,” Hutchinson said. “And it’s important at this time to have those voices and they should focus on this election cycle.”

Hutchinson’s comments follow a video from earlier this week in which Trump calls himself the 45th and 47th president of the United States.

Hutchinson previously criticized Trump’s stolen election rhetoric, saying the focus on 2020 was “a recipe for disaster in 2022.”

“Let’s talk about the future. The election is over, certified, ”Hutchinson said in October. “States make decisions on the integrity of each of their elections, and make improvements as needed. It’s about the future. It’s not about the previous election. And those kinds of comments aren’t constructive. “

Other Republican governors whom Insider spoke to at the NGA meeting stressed that their priorities are currently within the states they govern and in the upcoming 2022 election, not the 2024 presidential election.

“Anything thought of 2024 is wasted energy at this time,” Arizona Gov. Doug Ducey. “The election before us is 2022, and that’s what I’m focused on as chairman of the RGA.”

And Oklahoma Gov. Kevin Stitt said he was “focused on Oklahoma right now, not all the national stuff in DC” when asked about a potential Trump 2024 bid.
