Former U.S. President Donald Trump said on Saturday that if he runs for president and wins in 2024, he will forgive people who have filed criminal charges in connection with the deadly Jan. 6 attack by his supporters on the USCapitol.

Trump, who did not say whether he will run again as president after his defeat of Democrat Joe Biden in the 2020 election, was speaking at a rally in Conroe, Texas.

“Another thing we’re going to do, and so many people are asking me about it, is if I run and if I win, we’re going to treat those people fairly from Jan. 6,” Trump said to applause. “We will treat them fairly. And if it requires pardons we will give them pardons.

Because they were treated unfairly. ”Thousands of Trump supporters stormed the Capitol on January 6, 2021, the worst attack on Congress since the War of 1812.

Because of Trump’s false claim that his defeat in the November 2020 election was the result of fraud, the attackers sought to prevent Congress from proving Biden’s victory.

One police officer who responded to the scene died the day after the attack, while four others guarding the Capitol died later by suicide. About 140 policemen were injured in the long-time attack. Four rioters were also killed. More than 700 people have been charged with participating in the attack. Reuters
