Eric and Donald Trump Nailed With $250 Million Fraud Suit After Allegedly Spending Weeks Dodging NY AG

[ad_1]

Last month, New York attorney general Letitia James announced a sprawling lawsuit against Donald Trump, his three eldest children, and the Trump Organization, accusing them of engaging in staggering fraud for more than a decade and raking in hundreds of millions in ill-gotten gains. But as is the case in regular, small-time lawsuits that don’t have to do with a former president of the United States, the parties in this one had to be officially served. And because Trump is a con artist in every sense of the word, he apparently thought he could avoid the long arm of the law by simply ignoring the people trying to deliver the suit to him. Which worked out for himtil it didn’t.

Business Insider reports that Trump was officially served the 220-page lawsuit on Thursday, as was his equally weaselly son Eric, according to a Monday filing from James’s office. According to the attorney general, the ex-presidents lawyer Alina Habba and Clifford Robert, an attorney for Eric, never responded to the emails originally sent on September 21, the day the suit was unveiled asking them to confirm that they were the correct people to serve. And if youre wondering whether its standard practice for legal representatives to dodge suits on behalf of their clients, its not. As Insider notes, lawyers for all of the suits other defendants, including Ivanka Trump and Donald Trump Jr., had quickly accepted service.

The effort by father and son to evade the lawsuit led the AGs office to accuse the Trump camp of gamesmanship in court. (Which is straight out of Trumps playbook of using delay tactics to grind investigations, litigation, and criminal cases to a halt.) And on Thursday, Judge Arthur Engoron approved a court order request from James, ruling that all the AG had to do, in light of the other sides bullshit, was email the papers to the attorneys, which she did later that day.

In related news, the attorney generals office filed a motion for a preliminary injunction last week to stop the Trump Organization from moving assets to a new company that it conveniently created in Delaware just days before the fraud suit was announced. While attorneys for the Trump Organization insisted to James that the company did not do so in order to avoid the consequences of her suit which could include Trump and the Trump Organization being barred from acquiring commercial real estate in New York for five years and Trump and his three kids being banned from running companies in the stateshe was apparently less than convinced.

Our investigation uncovered the fact that Donald Trump and the Trump Organization engaged in significant fraud to inflate his personal net worth by billions of dollars to illegally enrich himself and cheat the system, James said in a statement. Since we filed this sweeping lawsuit last month, Donald Trump and the Trump Organization have continued those same fraudulent practices and taken measures to evade responsibility. Today, we are seeking an immediate stop to these actions because Mr. Trump should not get to play by different rules.

You’ll never believe it, but it appears Donald Trump has a history of mishandling top secret documents, lying about them, etc.
