Carnival Corp.’s former President and CEO Arnold Donald is stepping down from the company’s Board of Directors, the cruise giant announced today.
Donald, 67, retired as head of Carnival Corp. & PLC (NYSE: CCL) in August. He joined Carnival Corp.’s Board of directors in 2001 and Carnival PLCs board in 2003 and will relinquish those seats effective Nov. 30.
Donald, who left retirement to lead Carnival in 2013, is credited with steering the Doral-based company to record income. He stepped down after two of the company’s most challenging years due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
The company’s former COO Josh Weinstein was tapped to replace Donald as CEO.
“It is an honor and a privilege to serve this great company, and after 21 years of serving on the Board, I feel the time is right for me to step aside, making room for others to enjoy the experience of contributing their leadership to our company while providing me increased flexibility to contribute outside of Carnival Corporation,” Donald said.
In an interview with the Business Journal prior to retiring, Donald shared that he looked forward to spending more quality time with his six grandchildren.
Micky Arison, Chair of the corporation’s Boards of Directors, praised Donald and thanked him for his stewardship over the years.
“In working closely with Arnold for more than 20 years, I have the utmost respect for him as a person and as a professional,” Arison said. “He leads by example, listens intently, acts with integrity and puts a strong emphasis on supporting everyone around him. Arnold connects deeply with people and has an extraordinary ability to communicate, which has made him one of the most important and influential voices in our industry.”
According to the company, Donald has agreed to continue to provide counsel and advice to Carnival and its boards as a consultant.
