The Twitter Files has become must-watch internet TV in recent days.
One of the most important results of Elon Musk’s purchase of Twitter was his exposure to the elaborate censorship regime in place at the social media company.

That continued Friday night as journalist Matt Taibbi unleashed a lengthy thread on their decision to silence Donald Trump.
On January 6th, top executives debated how to limit the reach of former Presidents.
Internal discussions show that they actually adjust their policies on the fly to get what they want.
That means context becomes a concern in specific violations of individual tweets.

Censorship executives also created an entirely new tool designed specifically for Trump.
His tweets about the election will be labeled and deamplified at the same time.

Taibbi also specifically pointed out that company executives believe they need police interviews.
Any topic discussed on Twitter is subject to moderation.
That resonated with Trump, almost certainly because of their personal dislike of him.
One message describes him as a horrible person.
They also used the assumption of future violence as a reason to ban him permanently.

Getting an inside look at the partisanship involved in their internal discussions is not surprising. But it is very worrying.
These same individuals continued heavy-handed censorship against those on the right.
Taibbi said there will be further releases in the coming days with more background on their overt ideological preferences.
