Mr DeSantis has petitioned the Florida Supreme Court to convene a grand jury to look into any and all wrongdoing by pharmaceutical companies, which he says have a financial interest in promoting vaccines.

In Florida, a grand jury, usually made up of 18 people, convenes to investigate potential criminal activity.

Mr. DeSantis wants it to investigate whether there is misinformation about vaccines that claim to prevent infection, symptoms, and transmission of Covid-19.

He compared the case to others where pharmaceutical companies had to pay billions of dollars in the opioid crisis.
