Trump’s ‘major announcement’ was for the release of a digital card collection

Former President Trump on Thursday announced a line of digital trading cards bearing his likeness after teasing a day earlier that he would make a “major announcement.”

While some speculated that the announcement was related to the Speaker’s race playing out among House Republicans or Trump’s largely inactive 2024 presidential campaign, it was instead about a new commercial that opportunity for the former president.

Trump boasts that the digital trading cards “feature the amazing ART of my Life and Career!” and compared them to a baseball card, “but hopefully more exciting.” The cards sell for $99 each.

Sales of the cards are not affiliated with Trump’s 2024 campaign.

A day earlier, Trump teased a “major announcement,” posting on Truth Social that “America needs a superhero.”

The revelation drew derision from liberals and disbelief from conservatives.

“Thank God, digital trading cards are here. This is really a MAYOR ANNOUNCEMENT.” Daily Wire founder Ben Shapiro tweeted.

“Trump’s major announcement is still young. Actual adults would see this as weird and disturbing. An FPOTUS cranking this crap out? I can only imagine that our enemies are excited about Trump possibly returning to office,” tweeted former Rep. Denver Riggleman (R-Va.).

Trump’s major announcement was childish. Actual adults would see this as weird and disturbing. An FPOTUS cranking this crap out? I can only imagine that our enemies are excited about Trump’s possible return to office.

But people will buy these digital trading cards. It’s peanuts.

President Biden mocked Trump’s announcement from his personal Twitter account, noting that he also had “some MAJOR ANNOUNCEMENTS in the last few weeks,” pointing to lower gas prices and signing the bill into law to protect same-sex marriage.

Trump is the only declared candidate in the 2024 GOP primary field, having announced his campaign in mid-November at his Mar-a-Lago estate. But in the month since, he hasn’t held any campaign events, traveled to any early voting states or built his staff.

The former president instead made headlines for various controversies, most notably when he hosted white nationalist and Holocaust denier Nick Fuentes for dinner with rapper Ye, who also made antisemitic comments in recent weeks.

Trump again caused a stir when he suggested earlier this month that constitutional rules should be set aside in order to bring back the 2020 election or return him to power.

Republican lawmakers have pushed back on both charges, and frustration with Trump has simmered within the party after a disappointing midterm cycle that saw several high-profile Trump-backed candidates lose primary races. of the Senate and gubernatorial.

A majority of Americans in a poll this week said Trump’s Constitutional comments should disqualify him from running for the White House.
