Not a shred of evidence against me: Donald Trump criticized the January 6 panel in its report

Former US president Donald Trump responded after a Congressional panel report, released earlier this week, held him responsible for the riots on Capitol Hill on January 6. On his social media platform Truth Social, Trump posted a video and said, “The unselect committee [sic] has not produced one iota of evidence that I in any way intended or desired violence in our Capitol.”

“The evidence does not exist because the claim is baseless and a colossal lie,” Trump added.

The Republican leader who is struggling to get support from his party staff for the 2024 run said it was not an insurrection but a protest that got out of control.

“The events of Jan. 6 were not an uprising. They were a protest that went tragically out of control.”

He reiterated that his government had pushed for the deployment of 10,000 to 20,000 National Guard troops, a claim the select committee categorically rejected.

Notably, the committee that published the report called for Trump to be barred from re-election. To substantiate the claims, the report cited at least 200 acts in which Trump and his allies attempted to subvert the presidential election.

That evidence leads to a dominant and straight-forward conclusion: the main cause of January 6th is one person, former President Donald Trump, followed by many others. None of the events of January 6th would have happened without him.”

It added that Trump did not try to silence his supporters who charged on Capitol Hill at the time. His first tweet, asking supporters to back off, came an hour after the chaotic events began. At that point, Trump’s tweet didn’t mean much because most of it got through the Capitol.

The 800-page report was published after conducting 1,000-plus interviews and analyzing a large number of documents, phone records, texts and more.
