WASHINGTON (Reuters) Jamie Raskin, a Democratic US representative who rose to prominence as the lead manager for former President Donald Trump’s second impeachment trial, has been diagnosed with cancer, he said on Wednesday.

After several days of tests, I was diagnosed with Diffuse Large B Cell Lymphoma, which is a serious but curable type of cancer, Raskin said in an official statement.

I am about to start a course of chemo-immunotherapy on an outpatient basis at Med Star Georgetown University Hospital and Lombardi Comprehensive Cancer Center. The prognosis for most people in my situation is excellent after four months of treatment.

Raskin, who represents part of Maryland, oversaw the US Houses impeachment of Trump for inciting insurrection, which found that he incited rioters to attack the US Capitol on January 6, 2021. The House voted to i -impeached the president, but he was acquitted in the Senate, where 57 senators voted for his conviction, short of the 67 votes required for conviction.

Raskin also served on the January 6 Committee, which investigated the Capitol attack and Trump’s role in it.

In the next Congress, Raskin is slated to serve as the top Democrat on the House Oversight panel. In that capacity, he will liaise with Republicans, who are expected to launch several contentious investigations, including an inquiry into the business dealings of Hunter Biden, the son of President Joe Biden.

In a statement Wednesday, Raskin said he expects to continue working, but doctors have advised him to minimize unnecessary exposure to infectious viruses including COVID-19 during treatment.
