Avon-based manufacturer Advanced Polymer Coatings announced the death on December 28 of its founder, Donald Keehan. He is 87.

Keehan’s family released a statement on his death through the company.

Don is the main driving force behind the business, but more than that, he is a brilliant mind, a great friend, and an extraordinary person. Born with an entrepreneurial spirit, Don has been involved in starting and running several polymer-based technology companies since the 1960s, holding more than 14 total patents within the industry,” it read.

He pioneered the use of proprietary patented polymers to create high-performance coatings for chemical tankers and industry worldwide, including the well-known MarineLINE and ChemLINE brands sold by one of his most successful companies, Advanced Polymer Coatings , which took its name in 1997.

Don is the true definition of an entrepreneur, and often referred to as a disruptor in the industry, he never stopped pushing the technology envelope and he leaves a legacy through his work that we are all proud of here at Advanced Polymer Coatings to continue. .”

Visitation will be from 2-4 and 5-8 pm, Jan. 16, at Bogner Family Funeral Home, 36625 Center Ridge Road in North Ridgeville.

Services will be held at 10 a.m., Jan. 17, in St. Joseph Church, 32649 Lake Road in Avon Lake.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to The Marine Corps Scholarship Foundation or St. Judes Childrens Hospital, two organizations Keehan was passionate about, the release said.
