Donald Morell, 89, of Roscommon

Donald Wilfred Morell, 89, of Roscommon died Tuesday January 10, 2023 at his home.

Donald was born on August 21, 1933 in Argyle, Michigan to Stanley and Helen (Miller) Morell. Upon leaving High School, Donald served as an Army Special Forces Specialist during the Korean War. After returning from Korea, Donald earned his GED and worked as a Skilled Tradesman for GM for the next 35 years. Donald married Sandra Watkins on January 28, 1961 in Flint, MI. They lived happily together until her passing in 2011. Donald was a member of The Houghton Lake Eagles and Moose Lodges, the Houghton Lake VFW Post. He likes his classic cars. Donald attends many car shows each year, participates in the annual Pumpkin and Rusty Nuts run, and the Houghton Lake Memorial Day Parades through 2022. He is also an avid hunter, and takes annual trips with his friends. and family at his cabin in Onaway. He made these trips his whole life until he could no longer make them in the fall of 2022. He was known for his homemade wine and sauerkraut, and being a great dancer, owning over 300 pairs of dancing shoes.

Surviving Donald are his Son, Mark Morell; Sister, Yvonne Scott; and Long Time Significant Other, Lilia Simpson. Donald was preceded in death by his Wife, Sandra (Watkins) Morell; Parents, Stanley and Helen Morell; and 8 siblings.

Visitation will be held on Monday, January 16, 2023 at Christler Funeral Home – Houghton Lake Chapel from 12:00pm-6:00pm. A Mass of Christian Burial followed at St. Joseph Catholic Church, with Fr. Nathan Harburg, 4960 N. Ubly Rd. Argyle, MI 48410, on Tuesday, January 17, 2023 at 12:00pm with visitation beginning at 10:00am.
